Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office
Nathan leads the Colorado Governor’s Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry, where he oversees the cultivation of Colorado’s $62.5 Billion Outdoor Recreation Economy and partners directly with the Governor’s office to create policy agendas that promote the conservation and stewardship of Colorado’s public lands and waters, advances the state’s education and workforce development programs, and improves public health and wellness.

For over two decades, Nathan has worked with federal and state agencies, national and statewide non-profits, and local community groups to protect land and water resources across the Southern Rockies by developing strategies that balance resource conservation with responsible economic growth.

A lifelong paddler, Nathan spent the past 12 years leading American Whitewater's Southern Rockies Stewardship Program as Regional Director. Prior to his time at AW, Nathan was the Executive Director of the San Miguel Watershed Coalition, served as a Core Committee member of the Dolores River Watershed Coalition, and founded the Uncompahgre River Stewardship Alliance, all in Southwestern Colorado. He has also served as Advisor to the SW Colorado Program of The Nature Conservancy, the Colorado Watershed Assembly, and River Network.

In 2005, Nathan received the William C. Kenney Foundation’s Leadership Grant award, supporting efforts to address water resource issues in the western United States.
In 2012, Nathan was awarded the Partner in Conservation Award by U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, for scientific advancements and contributions to the US Bureau of Reclamation's Colorado River Basin Water Supply and Demand Study.
